Post-coital Cuddling
Cuddling Is a Basic Human Need
Cuddling is a basic human need, essential for physical and emotional health. One of the most powerful moments to fulfil this need is after sex. Post-coital cuddling isn’t just a feel-good afterthought – it’s an essential facet that deepens intimacy, nurtures emotional bonds and replenishes energy on many levels.
After an intimate exchange, vulnerability is often at its peak and the act of holding each other builds trust and a sense of security. This pure moment of unintentional togetherness allows both partners to feel seen, loved and valued, which contributes to strengthening the emotional foundation of the relationship.
Oxytocin the Love Hormone
On a hormonal level, cuddling triggers the release of oxytocin, often referred to as the ‘love hormone’. Being physically close after sex floods the body with oxytocin, creating a strong sense of unity, affection and peace between the partners. In addition, oxytocin lowers stress levels and increases feelings of calm and relaxation, making cuddling a natural antidote to anxiety and emotional tension.

Synchronising Energies
From an energetic perspective, when both partners are deeply intertwined, breathing together and radiating the frequency of love, the two ‘systems’ will synchronise their energies. In this state it’s like two positively charged batteries coming together, creating a sphere of energy that recharges both partners.
In ancient Taoist teachings, this state is seen as one of the few instances in which the primordial life force is exchanged, which, when intimacy is built on a loving and conscious framework, has health-promoting and even life-prolonging effects.
Consciously Embrace Moments of Oneness
Sadly, much of this wisdom has been forgotten and many people jump out of bed immediately after lovemaking or start scrolling through their mobile phones, which is not only disrespectful but also an alarming warning signal that something is wrong in the relationship.
I invite you to consciously embrace these sacred moments of oneness. Take time to feel each other’s warmth, listen to each other’s breathing and caress each other’s bodies.
