Microdosing

“A Path Out of Depression”

Powerful Tool for Breaking Patterns

Depression often arises when we live in ways that don’t match the life we really want to live. Whether it’s in our work, relationships or daily routines, going against our natural aspirations can lead to deep emotional suffering.

Microdosing psilocybin – the practice of taking small, sub-perceptual doses of the active ingredient in ‘magic mushrooms’ – is showing promise as a powerful tool for breaking these patterns.

Overactive DMN Can Trap Us in Cycles of Destructive Behaviour

Psilocybin has the ability to suppress and even reset the brain’s “default mode network” (DMN), which plays a major role in how we habitually follow our patterns of thought and action. When the DMN is overactive, it can trap us in cycles of obstructive and even destructive behaviour, such as addiction, as well as recurring feelings of unworthiness and helplessness – common facets of depressive disorders.

Microdosing reduces this rigidity and promotes the mental flexibility that can enable people to see life from new perspectives. In my personal experience and in working with clients struggling with toxic patterns, a reduced DMN makes it much easier to change, implement and optimise routines, habits and patterns.

Microdosing Is Not About Treating Symptoms

Compared to traditional psychiatry, microdosing is not about treating symptoms; it’s about creating the mental space to examine and adjust those aspects of life that don’t resonate with us. The aim is to reconnect with our authentic path, analyse and optimise habits and mental programming, and create lasting change. Combined with practices such as regular exercise, a healthy diet and meditation, microdosing can be part of an effective holistic approach to overcoming deep-seated mental problems.

Patients With Depression Reported Significant Improvements

Recent studies from institutions such as the Imperial College London show encouraging results. Patients with treatment-resistant depression reported significant improvements after taking psilocybin, often finding relief that lasted for years. While higher doses of psilocybin can offer deep, transformative experiences, microdosing allows for subtle, gradual change – ideal for those seeking a gentler, more controllable approach to their healing journey.
