Holism
The Interplay of Thoughts, Emotions, Energy & Physical Health
Exploring the Philosophy of Holism
In today’s fast-paced, consumer-driven society, there’s a tendency to treat symptoms rather than the root causes of our problems. This is particularly evident in conventional medicine, where there is a pill for every ailment. While this approach may provide temporary relief, it can lead to cycles of recurring symptoms and ongoing discomfort.
A holistic approach, however, considers the interconnected nature of our thoughts, emotions, energy and the physical body. Each aspect of our being influences the others, creating a dynamic balance that directly affects our health and well-being.
This perspective recognises that our thoughts shape our emotions, which in turn can raise or lower our energetic frequency (life force, qi, prana). Our frequency deeply affects our body, our habits and the reality we create and experience. Therefore, in order to resolve deep-seated issues, we need to address every facet of our system.
Trauma Affects the Entire System
An example of this principle can be seen in the story of a friend of mine, who suffered from extreme cluster headaches for many years. Despite visiting numerous specialists, she found no lasting relief.
One day, she reached a point where she was considered to be beyond treatment, with no hope of a cure. Out of this despair, she began to look into systems and approaches beyond conventional medicine.
While participating in a two-week meditation retreat, she became aware that a family member had violated her when she was a child. She had repressed this memory into her subconscious decades ago and could no longer access it.
Silent Trauma, Lasting Impact
Although it was hidden in her subconscious, the trauma had continued to affect her emotions and energetic vibration, and consequently her whole system and life. This experience illustrates how unresolved trauma can deeply affect our wellbeing, even when we are not consciously aware of it.
After working through her trauma in psychotherapy and hypnotherapy, her cluster headaches disappeared. Permanently. Clearly, the root cause of her suffering was not located in the physical, but in the emotional realm.
”Life is a beautiful tapestry. Each thread, no matter how small, plays a vital role in the overall design”
Our Love Life Is No Exception in Its Holistic Nature
Our love and sex lives are no exception in their holistic nature. Whether people are truly attracted to each other is not determined by physical appearance alone, but by a combination of mental and emotional compatibility, energetic resonance and physical attraction.
Issues in this highly important facet of life rarely have a singular cause – whether physical, mental, energetic or emotional. For example, when women struggle to achieve orgasm, the underlying reasons are very often multi-layered and highly individual.
Emotional causes can be significant. Many women have been exposed to societal, religious or familial norms that frame sexuality as shameful or inappropriate. Internalising such messages from an early age can create internal barriers that cause sexual encounters to trigger negative or inhibiting emotions.
Physical problems are also a common factor. A third of women who experience difficulty reaching orgasm cite pain during sex as a major obstacle to full enjoyment. This pain is often, but not exclusively, caused by inadequate foreplay, which prevents the female body from being fully receptive to sexual pleasure.
”Just as a single star illuminates the night sky, each soul shines with its own unique light, contributing to the magnificence of the cosmos”
Three Major Sexual Pleasure Centres
A widespread mental boundary is a lack of self-love. Without cultivating a genuine love for ourselves, it becomes incredibly difficult to step out of our minds and into the so-called ‘flow state’ during intimate exchange. This state however is essential for sexual and orgasmic energy to circulate freely through the body’s pleasure centres and chakras.
It’s equally important to consider the energetic aspects of our sexuality. Taoist sexology identifies three primary pleasure centres in the female body: the clitoral, vaginal and cervical pleasure centres. When these centres are energetically and physically activated through regular ‘conscious masturbation routines’ and specific exercises, every woman can experience orgasm in each of these areas independently.
However, many women can only reliably achieve orgasm either through clitoral or vaginal stimulation. This is often related to individual masturbation preferences. For example, women who primarily stimulate the clitoris during masturbation may find it easier to achieve orgasm through clitoral stimulation. Similarly, women who focus on vaginal stimulation may find it easier to achieve orgasm through vaginal stimulation.
Conclusion
Relationships and intimacy are profoundly complex and multifaceted realms. To fully understand the underlying patterns of any deep-seated issue, a holistic perspective is essential. By recognising the interconnectedness of our thoughts, emotions, energy and physical body, we can uncover the root causes of many of the challenges we face.
Only by considering the full spectrum of our being can we facilitate lasting healing and personal growth, paving the way for a more fulfilling life.
